All we really know about DC’s next superhero movie is that it will feature Superman and Batman, but it sounds like writer David Goyer might’ve already slipped up and given away the title.
The folks at ComicBook.com are reporting that Goyer teased the title is either Batman vs. Superman or Superman vs. Batman during an interview this past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con:
“So over in Hall H at the Warner Bros. — guess most people know now–at the end of the Warner Bros. panel, Zack came out and he brought Harry Lennix, who plays General Swanwick in Man of Steel and we — actually, Harry read a bit from [The Dark Knight Returns] and so the next film we’re making, we’re already in pre-production, comes out in summer of 2015 and it’s — we’re actually not sure whether the title is Superman vs. Batman or Batman vs. Superman but yes, it’s — that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.”
That’s pretty telling in itself, but digging a little deeper it seems DC and Warner Bros. are already a few steps ahead with getting the trademark rights in order. Not surprisingly, the studio has already registered SupermanvsBatman.com and BatmanvsSuperman.com, which is likely just a move to keep anyone else from snatching up the URL.
But, the studio has also locked up BatmanvsSupermanMovie.com — while SupermanvsBatmanMovie.com is registered under some individual account — meaning Batman vs. Superman is probably the title they have in mind.
We’ve already heard from director Zack Snyder that they’ll be using Frank Miller’s seminal Dark Knight Returns as inspiration, and that graphic novel famously featured an ass-kicking brawl between the two heavyweights. Plus, the use of a quote from the comic version of that battle was used in the announcement — meaning we’re most likely going to see these two face-off before they eventually team-up for a Justice League flick down the line.
Do you like the direction DC seems to be taking this project, installing Snyder at the helm and facing off their two biggest properties?
