Ben Affleck has already donned the cowl in Batman v. Superman, but audiences won’t have a chance to see him crusade in a cape until the film's release on March 25, 2016. But if rumors are true, that won't be all we'll see of the Batfleck. According to IGN, Affleck may be starring in and directing a stand-alone Batman movie.
The movie, rumored to be called The Batman, will have a 2018 release date.
According to IMDB, Affleck will also be making appearances in The Suicide Squad and two recently announced Justice League movies.
I think it’s a good idea for Batman to get his own stand-alone movie. After the Christopher Nolan trilogy, yet another three-parter seems like overkill. But a movie called The Batman has a whiff of an origin story - and we’re already getting that in the television show Gotham. Here's hoping we'll be seeing something new.
Although many fans have hate-ons for Batfleck, the jury remains out on how well he carries the cape and cowl until we actually, you know, see it. He's certainly a competent actor, and I'd argue he’s an even better director (see the criminally underwatched Gone Baby Gone). One also has to wonder how this would tie in to DC/Warner Bros.'s pre-existing plans for their cinematic universe.
We’ll keep you posted on updates involving The Batman if and when they develop.
