A remake of the 1980s classic Knight Rider is apparently winding its way through development, and it sounds like it might've found its two stars.
The folks at Schmoes Know are reporting that Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Danny McBride (This Is the End, Eastbound & Down) have been offered starring roles in the latest adaptation of the sci-fi series about a crime fighter and his talking car.
Their scoop does not explicitly say who is up for which role, though Pratt seems like a better fit for star Michael Knight (played by David Hasselhoff in the original series), and McBride could provide the voice for KITT. Or McBride could be up for a supporting role (i.e. the villain, etc.). They’re both buzzy, funny guys, and it’d definitely be interesting to see them work together.
if these casting options turn out to be true, it also gives us a feel for the direction they’re wanting to take this movie. Instead of a straight-up action film, it looks like they could be leaning toward an action comedy. Honestly, that’s probably not a bad idea, because the best way to sell that concept to a modern audience would be to embrace the absurdity. As the short-lived 2008 TV reboot showed, it's hard to play this one straight.
Hey, it worked for 21 Jump Street a few years ago, and Starsky & Hutch back in 2004, so why not throw in some funny?
