We knew Warner Bros. is keen to give Ben Affleck’s Batman his own solo film, and now we might just know the story they plan to tell.
A new report from JoBlo, which is unconfirmed (so measure your grain of salt accordingly), claims the solo film will combine elements from the “Under the Hood” and “Death in the Family” comic arcs to creative a cohesive solo adventure for Batfleck. Apparently, Red Hood will play a major role in the proceedings, and the claim is that Warner Bros. is aiming for a Captain America: Winter Soldier vibe, with the “former protege turned bad and seeking redemption” angle. The report goes on to claim Red Hood is a “priority” character for the big-screen strategy.
Here’s an excerpt from their alleged plot synopsis:
[T]he basic plotline of Affleck’s solo Batfilm is that Jason Todd has returned from the grave as the Red Hood, working in the shadows to make people think he's Batman, while making Batman look like a criminal. At the same time he leaves clues about his identity for Bruce/Batman to ultimately solve, leading to a confrontation that will involve Batman, Red Hood, and yes, The Joker, who will feature as a primary villain alongside Red Hood.
Naturally, the question will come up about whether or not Red Hood will be referenced as the second Robin and if Dick Grayson, the first Robin will play a role. According to our sources, Grayson is now Nightwing and will be referenced but not seen in Batman V Superman. However, Grayson is expected to show up in the solo Bat-film, assisting Batman in his battle against Red Hood and The Joker.
Admittedly, that sounds like a very cool idea — and one that would provide a fresh story for fans getting tired of the usual big-screen Batman fare. It would dig deeper into the canon in a way none of the other films have ever really bothered to do, and hopefully introduce some fan favorites (Nightwing!) along the way.
What’s your take on the rumor? Do you want this story approach to be true?
