Despite the awesome casting of Daniel Bruhl (Rush) in a major but as-yet-unknown-villain role in Captain America: Civil War, it looks like the main Big Bad will be someone else entirely -- someone whose character was firmly established in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Variety’s Justin Kroll took to Twitter this Friday night and claimed that it would be Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones (played by Frank Grillo in Winter Soldier), who’ll be Civil War’s actual main antagonist.
Here’s Kroll’s tweet:
Beat by Marvel in that one, two things he will play villain but not main one, Crossbones still main— Justin Kroll (@krolljvar) November 14, 2014
Now, the creation and return of Crossbones was hinted at near that the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Frank Grillo is keeping mum, of course, about whether he'll indeed return for the third Cap flick. But way back when in June, Grillo seemed to indicate that he would be back. Guess we'll have to wait and see if Marvel will make an announcement about Grillo soon.
The Variety reporter had also this to say about Bruhl’s mysterious character in a following tweet:
Also, while not confirmed hearing he would play main villain in DOCTOR STRANGE, was being eyed as villain when Phoenix was being courted— Justin Kroll (@krolljvar) November 14, 2014
How intriguing ... but back to Crossbones.
In the story that followed Civil War in the Marvel comics, Captain America was seemingly assassinated by the villainous Crossbones, which ultimately turned out to be untrue.
What do you guys think? Would it make sense to have Crossbones back as the main villain in Captain America: Civil War to face off against our good ol' Cap (Chris Evans)?
