Rumor of the Day: Game of Thrones recasts one of its characters

It seems HBO’s Game of Thrones could be welcoming a new actor into an old role with season four, as it sounds like a longstanding character has been recast. So who is it?

Prince Tommen Baratheon, originally played by Callum Wharry, will reportedly be played by Dean-Charles Chapman (above pic, on the left). The change has not been confirmed by HBO, though Winter Is Coming credits some well-placed sources for the scoop.

Why the change? King Joffrey’s younger brother is expected to have an expanded role in the new season, and it seems the producers wanted to slide a more experienced actor into the spot. In addition to a role in The White Queen and some upoming movies, Chapman is also a bit older, which should give the character a more mature look moving forward.

Interestingly enough, Chapman already appeared on Thrones back in season three as Martyn Lannister. He was one of the imprisoned squires killed by the Karstarks. It seems the producers liked what they saw, and decided to keep the kid around.

Oh, and in case you've forgotten what Wharry looked like, this is him:

Are you glad this role has been recast, or do you think the show has enough characters to juggle already?
