It’s no surprise that Marvel is already mapping out its next phase of TV projects, and a new report claims to know a few of the early contenders.
According to Heroic Hollywood, a new site founded by former Latino-Review scooper Umberto Gonzalez, the folks at Marvel TV have several heroes sketched out on the whiteboard for potential exploration on either network television, or new Netflix series (a la Daredevil).
Take it with a grain of salt at the moment, but the report goes on to note that a few characters who could show up in Phase 2 of Marvel’s ambitious Netflix plan that will launch after The Defenders miniseries in 2017. Leading candidates apparently include Blade, The Punisher and Ghost Rider. Not all these characters are under consideration for full series, mind you, though some could see backdoor pilot introductions in future shows. Regardless, this is at least a window into the direction they want to take the Netflix plan.
Looking to network television, it sounds like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter could potentially have some company in the coming years. Marvel is allegedly eyeing potential series adaptations surrounding Cloak and Dagger, Ms. Marvel and a Hulk prequel. All those properties have great potential (Cloak and Dagger rocked in the recent run of All-New Ultimates), and something like Blade would also bring some name recognition (just forget about that Spike TV series). We’d imagine ABC would be the likely landing place, if anywhere.
What do you think of the reported options? Would you like to see any of these characters developed to anchor their own shows?
