Take it with a grain of salt at the moment, but it seems there’s a chance former Doctor Who star Matt Smith could potentially return to the TARDIS.
The Mirror reports that showrunner Steven Moffat indicated there’s a chance the 11th Doctor could be the first former Doctor to regenerate back into the role. Smith left the role in 2013, making way for current Doctor Peter Capaldi (who is rumored to leave the series after the next season). Moffat reportedly said Smith was “quite open about how much he misses it, and how much he wishes he hadn’t left.” Smith has also previously stated at con appearances that he’d be open to returning to the show, but yeah, that could be construed more than a few ways.
It’s worth noting: Since exiting the sci-fi hit, Smith has picked up a few so-so roles in box-office duds Terminator: Genisys and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (along with some theatre productions). But his movie star career hasn’t exactly taken off as he might’ve hoped. He always seemed to enjoy the Who role, and was popular with fans, so you’d think the network could be interested in bringing him back into the fold.
What do you think? Would you like to see Smith be the first Doctor to re-regenerate?
