We knew Disney had some ambitious plans for its revamped Star Wars film saga, but the latest bit of potential casting news is definitely guaranteed to raise some eyebrows.
While speaking on the Meet the Movie Press podcast, The Wrap reporter Jeff Sneider revealed he’s heard some rumblings Disney could be pursuing Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle, Fantastic Four) to play a young Boba Fett in the proposed prequel spinoff film. Yeah. Just let that sink in for a minute.
As fans will almost certainly point out, Maori/Scottish actor Temuera Morrison previously played Jango Fett in Episode II. If they’re clones, which is how this was all explained, then it’d stand to reason they’d look at least a little bit similar. So yeah, that could take some explaining to pull off. Of course, it doesn’t take into account that Jordan is an excellent actor and would almost certainly do an excellent job with the character, so we’re hoping Disney goes with the best actor for the gig (Jordan or not) and not let the minutiae of continuity dictate the casting decision.
Which, as /Film notes, there are more than a few ways to deal with this. From having another character take over the mantle to doing a bit of ret-con work to simplify the clone stuff. There are options out there, and so long as they don’t get in the way of a good story, then the majority of fans probably wouldn’t care who is under that cool mask.
What’s your take? What direction would you like to see Disney take the casting on this one?
