Is Obi-Wan Kenobi finally getting his own Star Wars spinoff movie? He is, if we believe this new rumor. Help us, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're our only hope!
While we know that directors Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and Josh Trank (Chronicle, that upcoming Fantastic Four movie reboot) have already been hired to direct two of the upcoming Star Wars spinoff flicks, now comes news that one of those standalone movies would feature none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The report comes from Making Star Wars, who claim that a source has been in contact with them and has told them THIS:
“I’ve heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works. For the spin-off movies they were initially going to stay away from any Jedi or Sith characters. But I’m hearing now that because of the popularity of Obi-Wan (fans recently voting for him on the official website etc) that an art team is now working with a writer on concepts for an Obi-Wan movie.”
Now, this is early days, so that means he probably won’t be featured in either of the flicks to be helmed by Edwards or Trank (one of those flicks is, of course, rumored to be about Boba Fett, another Star Wars fan favorite).
It looks like the flick would probably take place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, when Obi-Wan was on Tatooine, doubtless looking over a young Luke Skywalker, since Lucasfilm appears intent to make movies taking place after the (much-loathed) prequels.
Ewan McGregor has previously expressed many times over that he'd be willing to return to the role of Luke's (and Anakin's) old mentor and Jedi master, so it probably won't be too much of a problem to snatch him up again (if he's not too busy) and get him to reprise the role originally made famous by Sir Alec Guinness.
What do you guys think?
