Sony is looking to create its own comic book universe with Valiant’s line of superheroes, and the studio is reportedly seeking an A-lister to lead the first film, Bloodshot.
The Wrap reports Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), James McAvoy (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Mark Wahlberg (Transformers franchise) are all being courted to star in the big-screen adaptation of Bloodshot. Jake Gyllenhaal and Nicholas Hoult are also reportedly on the “wish list,” which apparently rounds out at eight potential stars.
Based on Valiant’s comic series of the same name, Bloodshot is about a man brought back from the dead and empowered with nano-technology. The series was created by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton in 1992. The character is among one of the biggest success stories outside the Big Two, though it’s still a relatively unknown commodity to those who don’t follow comics. The film adaptation is being produced by Neal Moritz (Fast and the Furious franchise) and directed by Dave Wilson (a frequent collaborator of Deadpool’s Tim MIller). The script comes from Eric Heisserer (Arrival).
As for the cast wish list, it makes it clear Sony is looking to rope in a big name to draw some eyeballs and buzz to help get this action comic off the ground. There’s no doubt there’s a good movie to be made from Bloodshot, but it’ll certainly take some work from Sony to pull it off — and launch a shared universe in the process.
Do you like this wish list? Have any other ideas for who should star in Bloodshot?
