Rumor of the Day: Warner Bros wants more Batman, less Superman in Dawn of Justice

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is now knee-deep in post-production, with a little over six months to go before the superhero film opens in movie theaters.

However, a rumor came out earlier today claiming that the studio (that'd be Warner Bros.) has requested to see more of Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight and less of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel in the finished movie.

We’ve already heard that the powers-that-be have been so impressed with Ben Affleck’s turn as Batman in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman v Superman (the actor apparently got a standing ovation during an early screening of the movie) that they’re now planning not one, but a whole new trilogy of films -- with Affleck currently tapped to co-write, direct and star in Batman’s new solo outing.

Heroic Hollywood scooper Umberto Gonzalez says: “The latest hot rumor I am hearing is that Warners is requesting more Batman be put into the movie and less Superman.  Supposedly, Ben Affleck's Batman is so good that he is blowing Henry Cavill's Superman right off the screen.”

If the rumor is true, it’s a bit (OK, make that A LOT) of a bummer for Henry Cavill and Superman fans. However, it does kind of make sense, since Batman must be Warner’s most bankable DC Comics character, thanks to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Man of Steel wasn’t a total flop per se, but it sure as heck wasn’t the commercial or critical hit the studio was hoping for, and it ended up dividing a lot of fans with its darker take on the Superman mythos. That and the fact that Henry Cavill's latest outing, Man From U.N.C.L.E., didn't do so well, either ... well, let's just say Warner must be hedging its bets on the horse most likely to win them big, i.e. the Caped Crusader.

Still, nothing's official, so remember to take the news with a tiny grain of salt. But from everything we've been hearing so far, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to have some truth to it. What do you think?
