Craving more from the Blair Witch universe? You may be in luck. Recently appearing on the Diminishing Returns podcast, series co-creator Eduardo Sanchez seemed to run with the idea of the famous found footage film going the route of the television horror anthology:
“For us, it’s a very natural thing to go and say “Hey, let’s do a frickin’ Blair Witch show and you can say it’s from the original creators and we can bring in a whole bunch of interesting directors to direct episodes."
When asked if it would be all prequel material or limited to found footage, Sanchez continued, “I think that the idea of a Blair Witch anthology has always been very—just a very interesting thing. You’re close. You’re in the ballpark.” He finished with, "...we’ll see what happens, but I think that’s the next big thing for Blair Witch. Probably TV.”
Of course “probably TV” doesn’t mean “definitely TV”, and there is certainly no confirmation either way— but TV would be an interesting place for this franchise to resurface.
Anthology series have become all the rage lately, with American Horror Story dominating on the horror front, and Black Mirror and the upcoming Phillip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams (coming soon to Amazon) breaking ground in Science Fiction. Even the old classic Amazing Stories is returning, so why can’t Blair Witch join their ranks? Maybe it’s time to try and figure out whether or not it’s "the same log" from the comfort of your own couch.
