It's already been confirmed that Rogue One's Ben Mendelsohn has been in talks to play the Big Bad in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, but now we have some rumored info on exactly who he'll be playing when Carol Danvers finally makes her solo debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According The Hashtag Show, rumor has it that Mendelsohn will be playing Kree military commander Yon-Rogg, a villain who plays a somewhat pivotal role in Carol's journey toward becoming Captain Marvel.

In the comics, Yon-Rogg is the bitter enemy of Mar-Vell, the first character to take up the Captain Marvel moniker, who initially debuted in the Silver Age comics in 1967. As a part of their ongoing feud, Yon-Rogg kidnaps Carol Danvers to lure Mar-Vell into a fight. In the process, she is exposed to the energies from the Kree Machine called the Psyche-Magnetron. The resulting merging of her DNA and Mar-Vell's leads to her becoming Ms. Marvel -- and then, eventually, the new Captain Marvel.

This is the sort of rumor to definitely take with a grain of salt -- as previously reported, it's possible that Mendelsohn will be playing a Skrull instead, a different extraterrestrial species that's already been teased out as the main antagonist of Captain Marvel. However, Yon-Rogg also serves a pivotal role when it comes to Carol's origin story, so there's every possibility that he'll make a brief appearance in flashback, even if he isn't played by Mendelsohn. Either way, we're keeping our eyes peeled on this one.
