The imposing physique of Spencer Wilding may be headed back to the Star Wars Universe in Ron Howard's still-untitled Han Solo feature. Wilding's 6-foot-7 frame was last seen last December in Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as Darth Vader, tossing rebel soldiers to their deaths with a casual wave of his black-gloved fist.
A statement from the organizers of Fandom Fest Comic-Con in Kentucky, an event Wilding was due to attend this weekend, informs attendees that due to his addition to the cast of Han Solo, he would be absent this year: "Spencer Wilding will be unable to attend as he will be filming the newest film in the Star Wars Universe. Spencer will be coming back next year."
Besides his memorable turn in Guardians of the Galaxy as the blue-skinned Kree prison guard who rocks out to "Hooked on a Feeling" with Star-Lord's Walkman, the Welsh-born kickboxing champ has also been seen playing creatures in several episodes of Doctor Who, performed as Kilowog's mo-cap actor in Green Lantern, and frightened fans as the Prometheus monster in Victor Frankenstein.
While it's easy to assume that Wilding will step into the leather boots of the Sith Lord once again, there's been no official announcement that Vader will even be featured at all in the spinoff movie. But, come on, this is Disney and Lucasfilm, and chances are very strong that he will be!
What's your take on this interesting development, and are you betting on Vader's evil presence in the Han Solo flick?
