The Han Solo spinoff film is going through some retooling in the wake of Ron Howard’s hire, but it sounds like most of the story elements will stay the same. One alleged plot point? We’ll learn the genesis of Han’s troubles with Jabba the Hutt.
The Hashtag Show is reporting a source that claims Jabba the Hutt will show up in the Han Solo flick in a relatively key role designed to shed some light on the history of the relationship between Han and Jabba. Which makes sense, considering Jabba is a main player in Han’s history and it stands to reason they’d find a way to weave him into the narrative. Take it with a grain of salt at the moment, of course, but this is certainly a rumor that would make a fair bit of sense in general.
It’s also not surprising that the main plot is remaining intact despite the directorial shake-up, since Lucasfilm is keen to keep the existing script from Lawrence Kasdan as intact as possible. If Jabba is in that script, it makes sense he’ll stick around despite any behind-the-scenes issues.
As for how they’ll bring Jabba back to life? The report claims it’ll be a mix of practical effects and digital effects, which sounds like a wise move that’ll pay homage to all incarnations of the character (from the prequel trilogy, the original trilogy and the special editions).
