Josh Boone may be well on his way to becoming one of the busiest up-and-coming directors in Hollywood. The Fault in Our Stars helmer has three major projects lined up, including the 20th Century Fox X-Men spinoff movie New Mutants, Stephen King's The Stand, and a remake of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.

Two weeks ago, Boone posted an image of his completed script on his Instagram page (I've included it at the end of the post), confirming that not only is the film moving forward at Universal Pictures, but that the movie will be based on Rice’s first two novels: Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat.

And now, it looks like he may have already cast everyone's favorite iconic vampire antihero, Lestat. So, who could it be?

First, it started with Anne Rice’s son Christopher Rice teasing fans that some big announcements would be coming our way:

Then Boone took to Twitter to post an image of Suicide Squad actor Jared Leto with the caption “Lestat - there can be only one. #JaredLeto.” Check it out:

Now, it doesn’t mean Leto has actually been cast in the role. Maybe Boone is trolling us (gosh, I really hope not!) or he's just saying the actor would be his dream choice. But I'm really hoping that casting Jared Leto as Lestat is not wishful thinking on his part but the real deal. Leto is actually kinda perfect for the role, when you think about it. I'm sure he'd kill it as Lestat.

As for the remake/reboot, Universal acquired the rights to Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles back in 2014 with plans to adapt all the books for the big screen, with producers Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci attached. Boone was hired to write and direct the first film in the series.

Interview with the Vampire -- which was first published 40 years ago yesterday (May 5) -- was first adapted as a movie in 1994 with a blond Tom Cruise as Lestat de Lioncourt. Although Anne Rice and book fans were left in an uproar when it was announced Cruise had gotten the part, the actor’s commitment to the role and his performance won everyone over. Lestat was subsequently played by Stuart Townsend in 2002’s Queen of the Damned. Townsend wasn't bad, but the movie sucked. Pun intended.

What do you think? Would you love to see Jared Leto as the vampire Lestat?
