Rumor of the Day: Original Star Wars stars told to lose weight for Ep. VII

Star Wars actors Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) have apparently been told to lose the weight for the upcoming seventh opus in a galaxy far, far away ...

Seems that the producers for Star Wars Episode VII are keen to have the actors look as much as possible like older versions of the characters they played from 1977 to 1983.

Hamill, who is 61, and Fisher, who is 56, have apparently been given their own personal trainer and nutritionist to help them slim down so they can look more like the Luke Skywalker and the Princess Leia we all loved and knew some 36 light-years ago. Only … well, still older, but fitter, ya know?

Filming is set to begin by the end of the year.

A source told The Sun:

“Mark and Carrie need to be as close to their appearance in the earlier movies as possible. Producers are keen to help out and have offered support.
“The budget is huge so there will be no expense spared.”

Harrison Ford, who is now 71 and who will also reprise the role of space smuggler Han Solo (but apparently as a cameo) will not have to go through the same regimen as his co-stars, since the studio is already happy about the way Ford looks.

Carrie Fisher recently said about Star Wars being bought by Disney and the upcoming planned movie trilogy to be helmed by J.J. Abrams (at least for Episode VII):

"I'm glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape. So I'm really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see.
"By the time I really get down to it I will have eaten everything."

Do you agree with producers that Hamill and Fisher need to lose the weight before filming Star Wars Episode VII? Do you think that the Force will be with them?

Star Wars Episode VII will open in 2015.
