If a new report pans out, TNT's The Last Ship could be sinking soon. Deadline is reporting that those working on the post-apocalyptic series do not expect it to continue sailing past Season 5, which is already in the bag for next summer.

Rumors began after cast member Travis Van Winkle referred to finishing Season 5 as a “series wrap,” which he later deleted. The report also noted that lead star Eric Dane now has a clear schedule to look for other acting roles.

TNT issued a statement, obtained by Deadline, to dispel the rumors, which read: “We shot two seasons simultaneously, the fourth is currently on the air and the fifth will return next summer. We greenlit the fifth with the idea that it could be the final season, however it’s far too early to make that determination.”

The show – which explores the very real possibility of what happens when a virus is weaponized and wipes out a vast amount of the human population – is said to have been a steady performer for the network.

Actor Jocko Sims recently spoke exclusively with SYFY WIRE about why the show scares him. You can check out what he had to say here.
