We know Sony is prepping its own Amazing Spider-Man universe of spinoffs, and we might’ve just been clued in to the plot of that Venom standalone flick.

During an interview with IGN, co-producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach were asked about the odds of Carnage showing up in the Venom film, considering the two baddies have a very complex history in the comic canon. The duo seemed very interested in the idea, and it really could make for a good way to tell a Venom solo story.

Here’s the choice excerpt:

When IGN asked co-producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach about the possibility of Carnage appearing in the announced Venom movie, Arad replied, “What a great idea.”

Furthermore, Tolmach said, “Exactly. The idea of Venom and Carnage… taking it into consideration. Watch out for this Venom movie. We are crazy excited.”

When you combine this tidbit with news that the producers are eyeing a potential antihero approach, with the rogues gallery searching for “redemption,” you start to see where Carnage could work. if you need a baddie so evil it makes Venom look good, you could do much worse than Carnage.

What do you think? Is this the right approach?
