Russell Crowe is getting mighty busy building himself some awesome sci-fi street cred these days. Not only will we soon see him as Superman's Kryptonian dad Jor-El in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel (2013), but he's now also being touted as director Darren Aronofsky's choice for the titular Noah and, most importantly, as a certain robotic cop from the 80s. A Robo. Cop.
This scoop is coming directly from Variety's Jeff Sneider, who tweeted that Gladiator actor Russell Crowe MIGHT be starring in Jose Padilha's RoboCop reboot.
Now apparently the guy's some sort of prediction god machine, and when he drops hints, it's a big deal. Still, nothing's confirmed yet, so add a pinch of salt to all of this. (Just sayin'.)
Below are the bunch of tweets posted by Sneider that've been sending the geek fandom (including us, we have to say) into a flurry of excitement:
''Sure, Russell Crowe, MIGHT star in Aronofsky's NOAH... but do you know what else he MIGHT star in? Three words: Ro. Bo. Cop. #FloatThisBoat''
And when asked if this was a joke, Sneider responded with a resounding ''NO.''
Later on, he also tweeted:
''@NordlingAICN As valid as the other Crowe stories actually posted today... He's in the mix, but they shoot at the same time, so who knows?''
Jeff Sneider also added these:
''@NordlingAICN Not reporting it as fact, just wanna make that distinction. But someone already would've called to yell if there was NO truth.''
''@NordlingAICN do what you want. I'm just the messenger. Hedge your bets, but Rusty clearly has some decisions to make...''
We don't know about you, but we think Russell Crowe would totally OWN the part of Detroit cop Alex J. Murphy, aka RoboCop; just as Peter Weller did back in the late '80s.
Now we have to wait and see if the story will pan out to be true. Are you guys willing to place some bets? Do you think we'll get to see Crowe wear that tin suit?
