Being Human  and Quantico star Russell Tovey has been cast as gay superhero The Ray on The CW’s upcoming four-part Arrow-verse crossover (which includes Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow), titled Crisis on Earth-X.

But that’s not all. Much like Megalyn E.K.’s Vixen starred in her own animated series as well as guest-starred on Arrow, not only will Tovey play the live-action version of the character in the upcoming crossover, but he’ll also voice The Ray for CW Seed’s new animated series produced by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, Freedom Fighters: The Ray.

Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who got exposed to a “genetic light bomb” after he discovered a group of government scientists were working on a project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. While the bomb didn’t kill him, he was imbued with light-based superpowers and called himself The Ray. The version of the character will be based on Grant Morrison’s spin for DC Comics’ limited Multiversity series.

Freedom Fighters: The Ray will kick off on CW Seed sometime in the fall of 2017. The Arrow-verse crossover event, Crisis on Earth-X, will air over the course of two nights: Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 27-28, on The CW.
