A high school tale and coming-of-age journey unlike any other you've seen before are the subjects of a new pilot going into production right here at SYFY.

Deadly Class is based on an Image Comics comic book from co-creators Rick Remender (Black Science) and Wes Craig. It follows a disillusioned teen in the late 1980s who is recruited into a high school for assassins. There our young hero fights to retain his moral compass while surviving a ruthless and possibly fatal curriculum, alongside the usual high school struggles with social cliques and adolescent woes (except in a school full of killers).

A pilot has been ordered by SYFY from Sony Pictures Television Studios and Universal Cable Productions, with the comic being adapted by executive producers Remender and Miles Feldsott. Also on board as executive producers are Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who have been attached to the project for a while.

The showrunner on the project will be Adam Targum (Banshee), while the pilot will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger (The Age of Adaline). We haven't yet read the book, but it must be something special to attract such a formidable lineup of film, TV, and comics talent -- especially the Russos, who are taking a bit of time out from wreaking havoc on the Marvel Cinematic Universe to throw their weight behind this show.

Deadly Class still has to get through the pilot stage before it officially becomes a SYFY series, but it joins a slate of other intriguing projects the network is cooking up, including George R.R. Martin's Nightflyers, the Superman prequel Krypton, the graphic novel adaptation Happy, and series based on the movies The Purge and Tremors.

Have you read Deadly Class? Will it make a great series for SYFY?
