Ruth Negga's next cinematic journey will be into the far reaches of outer space as she joins Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones in the cast of Ad Astra.
The film, from New Regency and director James Gray, will tell the story of a man journeying "across a lawless and unforgiving solar system to find his missing father, a renegade scientist who poses a threat to all of mankind," reports THR.
Those are the roles Pitt and Jones will play, but the report had no details on what Negga's character will be doing in the film.
The actress has seen her star skyrocket in recent years, while also keeping one foot firmly in genre entertainment. There she's been an Inhuman in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a doctor investigating the zombie apocalypse in World War Z, also with Pitt, and she stars as Tulip O'Hare in Preacher, currently in its second season on AMC. Meanwhile, she also had an Oscar-nominated turn in the period drama Loving last year, showing her range.
Gray co-wrote the film with Ethan Gross, his collaborator on Lost City of Z, and will direct the film for distribution by 20th Century Fox. Pitt's production company Plan B is also producing. No filming or release schedule has been set for Ad Astra (Latin for "to the stars") as of yet.
