The first footage from Blade Runner 2049 has finally arrived! The sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic sci-fi movie stars Ryan Gosling as an LAPD officer named K and sees the return of star Harrison Ford as everyone’s favorite Replicant hunter, Rick Deckard.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) from a screenplay by Hampton Fancher (Blade Runner) and Michael Green (Green Lantern) based on a story by Scott and Hampton, the movie also stars Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Barkhad Abdi, Lennie James, Mackenzie Davis and Sylvia Hoeks.
What's happening below is a bit of a mystery, but that amazing dune-like landscape looks fantastic. What's more exciting, however, is that tense first meeting between Gosling and Ford.
“I had your job once. I was good at it.”
“Things were simpler then.”
I'll say it: I had some wonderful chills. Still, I hope the first official trailer will shed a bit more light into the movie, though the first synopsis does offer a few details. Gosling is playing a new blade runner named Officer K, who stumbles upon a long-buried secret and has to track down Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) to solve it. The film is set 30 years after the first Blade Runner, and it seems Deckard has been missing for pretty much that entire time.
Blade Runner 2049 will open in movie theaters on Oct. 6, 2017.
