Ryan Reynolds reveals his next priority is to get an X-Force movie done

With comic-book movie Deadpool opening this coming Friday — to generally great reviews — it looks like Ryan Reynolds has already set his sights on the next movie project (one that's set in the X-Men cinematic universe) he’d like to tackle.

When the actor was asked where he saw the Merc With a Mouth going next within that universe during an interview with German movie site Filmstarts, Reynolds said that his next priority was to get that stuck-in-development-hell X-Force movie off the ground.

“There’s so much material to mine in just the X-Men universe. In the future, if we’re doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we’re really going to explore the X-Men a lot. We’ll see. And maybe X-Force - X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in.”

Back in 2013, Fox hired Kick-Ass helmer Jeff Wadlow to write the screenplay for an X-Force movie, but after that nothing more was heard until a year later (that’d be 2014), when comic-book writer and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld tweeted that the “X-Force not a rumour, script complete, paid for by Fox. Excellent.”

Since then, complete radio silence.

To be fair, Fox has a busy plate (which was made less busy by the studio mercifully pulling the plug on that Fantastic Four sequel) regarding the X-Men cinematic universe with X-Men: Apocalypse opening on May 27, a third Wolverine solo movie starring Hugh Jackman as the Canadian mutant planned for a March 3, 2017 release, a New Mutants film project floating around and two X-Men spinoff TV series in the works: Hellfire Club over at Fox and Legion, the Marvel TV/FX Networks co-production from X-Men's Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg, with Dan Stevens starring in the title role.

Still, they'll have to step up their game if they want to match Marvel Studios' output on both the big and small screens.

With Reynolds (and the fans) being the driving force behind getting the Deadpool movie done, can the actor work the same magic on that long-gestating X-Force movie project?
