It's 2017, and we have a new "Sexiest Man Alive." But that doesn't mean everyone agrees with the People's choice, Blake Shelton. And of course, Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds always had to weigh in, saying the real "Sexiest Man Alive" is still waiting to be crowned. Who? Patrick Stewart, obviously.
Every year, People Magazine carefully reviews facts, longingly gazes at photos, and hopefully uses some sort of well-thought-out point system to definitively name the "Sexiest Man Alive." Actually, we have no idea how they decide, but decide they do. And earlier this week, country singer and judge on NBC's The Voice Shelton was awarded the title for 2017.
The title of "Sexiest Man Alive" has been named annually since 1985, and remains to be one of the most meaningless awards given out -- unless you win. Way back in 2008, Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, was honored as such. So Jackman took to Twitter to give Shelton some advice on holding the title, while also poking fun at 2010 champ, Reynolds (Deadpool), who appeared with Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Reynolds tossed the snark right back, claiming that Shelton and Jackman are in the way of the real "Sexiest Man Alive": Sir Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: The Next Generation, X-Men movies).
It does seem like the number of superheroes on the "Sexiest Man Alive" list is high. In addition to Wolverine and Deadpool, Batman and Thor have been on the list as well -- Ben Affleck in 2002, and Chris Hemsworth in 2014. And real life superhero Harrison Ford made the list in 1998. (That's his job now, right?)
At 77, Stewart would be the oldest "Sexiest Man Alive" ever crowned (the current oldest is Sean Connery, who was 59 when he was crowned in 1989), sexiness has no age limit. So how do we start this campaign? Quick! Someone come up with a hashtag.
