Stranger Things, Get Out, and Shape of Water turn the SAG Awards nominations upside down

The nominations for the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards are in, and the usual genre suspects have made the cut. Stranger Things, Get Out, and The Shape of Water have all managed to snag recognition from the guild in multiple categories each. All three started off the week strong, with multiple Golden Globe nominations on Monday, with Shape of Water leading the pack with seven.

A nice surprise in the SAG announcements is Wonder Woman's nomination in the Stunt Ensemble category; the DC superhero movie was snubbed by the Globes. Logan, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine swan song, also snagged a nomination in the same category, alongside War for the Planet of the Apes.

Alexander Payne's sci-fi dramedy Downsizing and Hulu's dystopian drama The Handmaid's Tale are also getting to share some of the spotlight, albeit to a much smaller degree, through the performances of Hong Chau and Elisabeth Moss.

All in all, sci-fi, fantasy, and horror are predominant fixtures of this year's SAG nominations, with a good handful of surprises. Let's hope they can keep the awards- season momentum going as we inch closer to the Oscars.
