Sam Elliott is on the hunt in trailer for 'The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot'

The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot, Sam Elliott

Sam Elliott is one of those actors you're always happy to see pop up, whether he's lending his presence to a single scene or to a whole film, but despite a storied career, Elliott and his legendary mustache have never done anything quite like this before.

After earning rave reviews and serious buzz on the festival circuit — including SYFY WIRE'S own coverage of Fantasia Fest — last year, Elliott's latest film — the unforgettably titled The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot — is now finally just weeks away from a wide release, and Entertainment Weekly just dropped the first stunning trailer.

As for what the film's about...well, the title is not a metaphor. Elliott stars as Calvin Barr, an American legend who's haunted by a secret from his past. Once upon a time, he was the man who managed to get close enough to Hitler during World War II to shoot him dead. Now, decades later, he's a man of mythic proportions in the eyes of the U.S. government, and they're about to call on him again. It's seems a new virus that will dwarf the effect of things like bird and swine flu is on the rise, and it has a very dangerous carrier: Bigfoot. With a potential pandemic on the horizon, it's up to Calvin to venture out into the wilderness and kill the legendary beast.

The trailer has all the trappings of the kind of "One Last Ride" adventure movies great American actors love to make, as Calvin both heads out on his hunt and looks back at his past and the regrets he's had in life, but this isn't just about an old man taking a walk in the woods. This is presented as an epic, vivid, visually gorgeous journey of a movie, and we shouldn't let the somewhat whimsical title fool us. This could be one of the great performances of Elliott's career. Check it out.

The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot arrives in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD on February 8. You'll probably want to make some time for this one.
