Nick Fury will reunite with The Avengers in 2015, but apparently this time we should expect him to take a more passive role.Â
After helping to assemble Marvel's super-team in previous films, Fury had a lot to do in 2012's The Avengers, from gathering Earth's Mightiest Heroes and convincing them to fight as a team (using not entirely aboveboard methods) to salvaging a helicarrier and shooting down a jet to buy his heroes some time. If the trailers are any indication, Fury also has a good bit of action in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but in a new interview to promote that film, the man behind the eyepatch, Samuel L. Jackson, said we shouldn't expect a lot from him as the Avengers reunite for 2015's Age of Ultron. Why? Well, it could be that he simply doesn't pack the same punch that Marvel's superteam does.
"Iâm just kind of passing by there [in 'Avengers 2'] you know. Iâm not doing so much, I donât think," Jackson told Yahoo! Movies UK. "Because, itâs another one of those 'people who have powers fighting people who have powers.' Thatâs why I didnât get to New York during âThe Avengersâ. There wouldn't be a lot I could do but shoot a gun. So, there's no need in having me there."
So, while Fury will definitely be around, it sounds like Jackson's resigned to letting the Avengers do the heavy lifting, and since Earth's Mightiest Heroes will be adding Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (at least) to the team to help out, that sounds like a reasonable point of view. That doesn't mean he won't be without some fun dialogue or badass leadership moments, though. After all, Jackson has never been famous for standing in the background.Â
