Despite featuring a plethora of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy, the man who assembled the Avengers (Nick Fury) apparently won’t return for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. Nor will he be in the Africa-set superhero movie Black Panther, for that matter.
In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies for his new flick The Hitman's Bodyguard, Samuel L. Jackson said Nick Fury won’t appear in either Avengers movie after falling off the grid during Captain America: The Winter Soldier (although he popped up for Avengers: Age of Ultron) and sitting out the events of Captain America: Civil War.
In fact, we won’t see the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. with two good eyes and all that until Captain Marvel (which is set in the 1990s) flies into movie theaters on March 8, 2019. Here’s what Jackson said:
“I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [‘Captain America: Civil War’], I’m not in ‘Avengers 3 and 4’. They’re shooting them now, and they haven’t called me yet. They wouldn’t let me go to ‘Black Panther’-ville, so it’s kinda like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?!”
It is pretty clear Jackson isn’t a happy camper about Nick Fury missing out on T’Challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) first solo adventure with Black Panther (Feb. 16, 2018). It’s certainly weird Fury won’t be in the next Avengers superhero movies as our heroes take on the MCU’s biggest threat yet: the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin), when he was originally expected to return. But could it all be a fake-out to set up a Nick Fury surprise? That’s certainly a possibility, too.
What do you think about Nick Fury apparently sitting out Marvel’s upcoming slate of comic book movies (minus Captain Marvel)?
