Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming sci-fi thriller Bird Box, and the cast is surprisingly A-list. You've got Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Sarah Paulson (Glass), John Malkovich (Penguins of Madagascar), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Jacki Weaver (The Voices), David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man and the Wasp), and Machine Gun Kelly (Bright).
Directed by The Night Manager's Susanne Bier, the movie follows Malorie (Bullock), a single mother leading her two kids through the end of the world. What's causing it, you might ask? Well, according to the trailer, it's some unknown entity that can make you see your worst fears. As a result, the surviving humans have to cover any windows or, if they're moving outside, blindfold themselves.

The trailer reminds us of A Quiet Place, It, This Is the End, The Happening, and Netflix's own How It Ends. Early buzz is calling it an awards season contender, so we're hoping that the sheer amount of talent behind and in front of the camera will help break the Netflix curse of second-rate genre films.
Bird Box is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Josh Malerman, with the screenplay written by genre veteran Eric Heisserer (2011's The Thing, Lights Out, and Arrival). Those who have read the book know the significance of the movie's title, but for newcomers, let’s just say that it could very well hold the key to survival.
Here's the first poster as well:
Bird Box lands on Netflix Dec. 21.
