We got to see the Fellowship share a few meals in the Lord of the Rings series, but a team of geeky scientists have figured out just how many calories would be required to make the trek. Turns out Frodo and the gang would need to pack a whole lot of Big Macs.

A new study initiated by Skye Rosetti and Krisho Manaharan, published in the Journal of Interdisciplinary Science Topics, determined all nine members of the group would need to consume 1,780,214.59 calories to walk the 92 days needed to reach Mordor. They even broke it down by different species (Hobbits need 1,800 calories per day, compared to 1,400 calories for elves).

For those keeping count: That’d be 3,162 Big Macs for the entire journey. The team also attempted to figure out the calories in a fictional loaf of lembas. By their estimates, they include 2,638 calories, and it’d take 675 loaves to make the journey. Again, that’s a whole lot of food.

So, take note: If you’re ever prepping for a trip to destroy the One Ring — pack accordingly.
