Scooby-Doo! and the Curse of the 13th Ghost: A sorcerer has very unmagical 'wizard's block' in exclusive clip

Scooby-Doo! and the Curse of the 13th Ghost

Every wizard has their off days... In an exclusive clip from the upcoming Scooby-Doo! and the Curse of the 13th Ghost, the sorcerer known as Vincent Van Ghoul has a bit of trouble casting spells in the presence of the demon, Asmodeus. Ghoul is played by seasoned voice actor Maurice LaMarche, who seems to be doing a riff on the voice he used for the megalomaniacal lab mouse Brain in Pinky and the Brain.

Van Ghoul is clearly modeled after the late horror master, Vincent Price, with just a possible hint of Doctor Strange thrown in there for flavor. He enlists the help of a now-defunct Mystery Inc., whose members were forced to retire after they were held responsible for putting an innocent man away. Wow, we did not expect to see that from an animated Scooby-Doo! movie.

Watch the exclusive clip below:

Still, you can't keep a good supernatural crime-solver down.

When Velma (Kate Micucci) and Fred (Frank Welker) were at camp one summer, Scooby (also Welker), Daphne (Grey Griffin), and Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) secretly hunted down and captured 12 of the world's "spookiest ghosts."

The most dangerous of them all, the eponymous 13th Ghost, got away, but Vincent is close to imprisoning the spirit in the chest of demons with the other ghosts. The only drawback is that the box is somewhere in a remote Himalayan village. Cue the car chases and crystal balls!

“We’re delighted to offer this brand-new, animated Scooby-Doo! film. It’s a perfect choice for family movie night," said Mary Ellen Thomas, Vice President Family & Animation Marketing, in a press release. "Kids will be engaged as they try to solve the mystery behind the 13 ghosts and adults will be entertained by the film’s clever writing and eye-catching animation. This is a must-own film for all Scooby-Doo! fans.”

The movie was produced by Sam Register, written by Tim Sheridan, and directed by Cecilia Aranovich Hamilton.

Scooby-Doo! and the Curse of the 13th Ghost arrives in stores Feb. 5. Bonus features include "To All the Ghouls I've Loved Before" and "Horror-Scope Scoob."
