San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing and on Thursday the ever-entertaining comics writer Gail Simone (Batgirl, Deadpool, Wonder Woman) brought along friends and had an informal chat with fans at her Spotlight Panel moderated by her husband Scott.

The panel was full of surprises, kicking off with Gail receiving the Comic Con Inkpot Award given for excellence in comics.

She went on to discuss her journey from isolation on a farm to her first SDCC panel for Marvel repping her Deadpool comic. The first guest that dropped by was Aaron Lopresti who is working with Gail on the upcoming Conan the Barbarian/Wonder Woman crossover book which he says has "a lot of heart" and "depth". The book something for everyone and even those who aren't fans of Conan should enjoy it.

Next up surprise guest Cat Scraggs came by to discuss her and Gail's newly released crime book "Crosswind" which Gail described as "Goodfellas meets Freaky Friday". Basically we heard "crime story" and got really psyched.

While answering fan questions Gail discussed her love of Barbara Gordon Oracle and the need for more representation of disabled characters in comics. Gail's dream book to make? A Spider-Man comic with artist Nicola Scott in which she's imagining lots of "spidey-butt."

But Gail is living her dream and she's even getting less nervous when it comes to panels. Which is good because she's sure to be doing many more in the future.
