After a lot of jostling to make sure it could have the spotlight all to itself, the first official teaser trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has finally arrived. One brief look is all it’s taken to make us even more eager for the movie’s June 2018 release.

Though the new film's plot details are still murkier than primordial ooze, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, as its name suggests, puts us right back into the aftermath of its predecessor — a parable of all that can go wrong when people keep meddling with natural forces they may know how to manipulate, but haven’t begun, or even tried, to understand. Only this time, some of those forces are actually fighting to save the dinosaurs from a second exctintion caused by an explosive volcano on the island...

While Universal Pictures has total creative carte blanche when it comes to crafting the new story for Fallen Kingdom and the other movies in the new Jurassic World trilogy, the film is anchored by familiar faces, although time has definitely gone by from the first film to the second. Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B.D. Wong, and the deliciously jaded Jeff Goldblum — returning from an extended hiatus as Dr. Ian Malcolm — all are back to reprise their established roles.

That longtime cast is joined by JW series newcomer James Cromwell, who will emerge as Benjamin Lockwood — John Hammond’s (Richard Attenborough) original (but, until now, mysteriously absent) partner in dinosaur-cloning chaos. Toby Jones, Ted Levine, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, and Daniella Pineda, among others, also are introducing new characters.

Universal undoubtedly has another official trailer or three up its sleeve in the six months to come, so stay tuned. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom releases wide June 22, 2018.
