It's bad enough when you have to be murdered over and over again. It's something else entirely when you find out that there are worse things in life than perpetual death. That's the central concept of Happy Death Day 2U, the forthcoming sequel to 2017's Groundhog Day-esque horror/comedy Happy Death Day.

In the wee hours of New Year's Day, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions released the second trailer for the movie, which sees Christopher Landon returning as director. He also took up writing duties this time around, replacing Scott Lobdell.

Watch the trailer now:

It was quite obvious that a sequel would be made, as the first movie took in over $122 million worldwide against a meager budget of $4.8 million. Even so, audiences will need more than just the Groundhog Day/Edge of Tomorrow shtick this time around if the follow-up is to repeat its predecessor's financial success.

Jessica Rothe (Theresa "Tree" Gelbman), Israel Broussard (Carter Davis), Ruby Modine (Lori Spangler), Rachel Matthews (Danielle Bouseman), and Phi Vu (Ryan Phan) are returning for the sequel. New cast members include Suraj Sharma (God Friended Me), Sarah Yarkin (Eat, Brains, Love), and Steve Zissis (Bad Milo).

Returning producers Jason Blum, Angela Mancuso, and John Baldecchi are joined by Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse alum Samson Mucke.

Happy Death Day 2U slashes its way into theaters February 14, aka Valentine's Day.
