Yes, that Red Dawn remake is really, truly, finally headed to theaters this year, after three years of changes, delays and general chaos. A few days ago, we got the first official photos. Now we've got the first footage, and it's actually kinda cool.
In case you haven't heard, Red Dawn's keeping the same basic concept of the 1984 original, but with a few modern diplomatic and logistical alterations. Instead of Russians and Cubans invading Colorado, North Koreans are invading the Pacific Northwest (they were originally Chinese, but then the filmmakers realized they would lose Chinese movie ticket money, so CGI came to the rescue).
This footage isn't really a trailer. It's one of those "pre-trailers" that have been so fashionable lately, but it does give us a good idea of what's going on. North Koreans push onto U.S. soil and actually take over a chunk of the country, residents of which include the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson and Tom Cruise's son Connor. As the situation grows more dire, the kids decide to take matters into their own hands, pick up assault rifles and go to work.
Check out the footage below. Even if you're not interested in the flick, it's worth watching just to marvel at how un-Thor-like Hemsworth looks.
Red Dawn opens in theaters Nov. 21.
