This article contains spoilers for upcoming episodes of Gotham.

We were anticipating the appearance of Azrael in the second half of Gotham Season 2 this year, but you may not have guessed exactly who would be the face behind the avenging angel's menacing mask.  Hints were offered up that actor James Frain's Theo Galavan would be back to fill the leather garb and gauntlets of the infamous assassin from The Sacred Order of St. Dumas after his death in the midseason finale, and now we have further proof of this resurrecting development.  Scroll down for the first images from the Brooklyn set of Gotham and see just what Dr. Hugo Strange has been up to.

Though the flaming sword is absent in these set shots, the look of Azrael does have some serious bite to it.  Here's what Gotham executive producer John Stephens relayed on the charismatic character in an interview with

"In many respects, Azrael will have many of the hallmarks and traits that we know from the comics," he said. "But it will have a brand-new twist upon that character; the way we're going to bring that character into being on our show will be different than anything we've seen in the comics."

How do you like the crimson costume of Azrael, and are you excited to see Galavan galavanting around Gotham City again when the Gotham: Wrath of the Villains resumes on Monday, Feb. 29?
