Want to know how they made all those insane Star Wars creatures? A new mini-documentary digs into it, and follows visual effects pioneer Phil Tippett through some of his most iconic creations.

The 7-plus-minute documentary, created as part of the the That Was Me series via Mashable/Dailymotion, goes deep into the annals of where Tippett designed and crafted everything from myriad Star Wars aliens to RoboCop's ED-209.

With J.J. Abrams gearing up to make Star Wars VII, it's nice to look back at where it all started. It’s a fascinating peek into how these designs came together in the early days of Star Wars’ development, when it was still just a risky little sci-fi flick, and we’d love to see even more from Tippett’s playground.
