For months now, we've been waiting to see something substantial from Fear the Walking Dead, the new series hoping to capitalize on the incredible success of The Walking Dead TV series. We've seen the cast announcements, and we've even seen a few teasers, but we were hoping that San Diego Comic-Con would deliver something bigger. As it turns out, we got our wish.
Today AMC released a powerful three-minute trailer for the new series that focuses on a guidance counselor (Kim Dickens) and a teacher (Cliff Curtis) as they try to hold their respective families together in the midst of a crisis that, at first, no one believes is really serious. The trailer begins with family drama, then escalates into chaos as all of the main charcters start to realize that what they're dealing with isn't something normal.
Honestly, I've been a bit skeptical about this series since it was announced, because I just don't know how many zombies I can take, but thanks to this trailer, I'm intrigued. The trailer does a fantastic job of depicting the chaos that follows the early stages of a zombie outbreak, and as a result the show is set up to deliver to us something The Walking Dead never could: A world where the rules aren't yet established, and where people are fighting for understanding as much as for their own lives.
Fear the Walking Dead arrives on August 23.
