A few regulars bit the dust in season three of The Walking Dead, so the hit AMC series will be bringing three side characters to the forefront next year.
The series has officially promoted actors Chad Coleman (Tyrese), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha) and Emily Kinney (Beth) to regular status next season. Melissa Ponzio (Karen) has also signed on as a recurring character, after joining up with Rick and company in the season-three finale as one of the only survivors of the Governor’s massacre.
Since Tyrese and Sasha have been lingering around the fringes for half a year, it’s no surprise they’ll finally take on a larger presence next season. Tyrese was a major character in the comics, and it’s nice to see he’ll have more to do soon.
Karen has also been an interesting change of pace from the Woodbury gang, and she should provide a great window into how the Governor’s old citizens are settling in at the prison. That looks to be a major storyline next season, and a recognizable Woodbury veteran should make for good drama.
The cast is still pretty large next season, though the writers did clear up some space in the last few episodes, so everyone should get a fair amount of attention next year. Of course, they’ll also be working David Morrissey’s Governor back into the mix. So it should be fun.
Do you like the cast additions? Which characters would you like to see more of?
