It’s taken a few years in development hell, but we’re finally getting a TV series based on Preacher — but as with The Walking Dead, comic fans will still be in for a few surprises when this one arrives.

Best known as an actor in flicks like This Is the End and Pineapple Express, Rogen is putting on his producer hat for the long-gestating TV series based on Preacher. Though he’s already teased that they plan to restructure some parts of the story, it now sounds like Rogen’s team could be eyeing some changes to keep the story fresh for longtime fans.

Here’s what he told /Film about the project’s development:

“Me and Evan are writing it write now with the help of Sam Catlin and we’ve come up with a lot of incredibly crazy ideas. [Laughs] It’s a fun thing to riff on and talk about. We’re definitely trying to expand on some of the ideas in the comic and make it that…we love most of the main cornerstones of the comic but we’re trying to make it that even if you’ve read the comic you should not know exactly what to expect from the TV show.”

This move can be a very good thing, as Walking Dead has shown (at times), but Rogen could also mess with the wrong parts and end up with something neither fans nor newbies will want to watch. Here’s hoping he’s wise enough to know the difference.

What do you think? Would you like to see an extremely faithful version, or are you open to some tweaks?
