“The Four Lands is in grave danger. The Ellcrys is dying.” Three new promos have been released ahead of the premiere of MTV’s new fantasy series The Shannara Chronicles, now less than a month away.
Based on Terry Brooks’ beloved Shannara book series, the story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humans, elves, druids and magic exist together. Like Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movie trilogies, The Shannara Chronicles was filmed in New Zealand. It even stars LOTR alum John Rhys-Davies, who has exhanged Gimli's battle axe for the regal crown of the Elven King Eventine.
The first promo centers on the Ellcrys Tree, a magical barrier of sorts that keeps the Demons that once overran the Four Lands trapped in an alternate world known as the Forbidding. Manu Bennett’s Druid Allanon tells us each leaf represents one demon. Once they begin to fall (and they do), the creatures of darkness will be released one by one. Between you and me? Those demons look like they mean evil, demon-y business.
The second promo features Amberle (Poppy Drayton), a young elf and a new member of The Chosen, who tend to the Ellcrys Tree, telling Allanon about her visions of death and destruction. Can she save the Four Lands?
The third one serves as an official promo to the Four Lands, telling us that the events leading to this moment have been unfurling for centuries. Let's hope our young heroes will be able to put a stop to the evil returning.
The Shannara Chronicles stars Poppy Drayton, Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett and John Rhys-Davies and is executive-produced by Jon Favreau, Al Gough, Miles Millar, Dan Farah, Jonathan Liebesman and author Terry Brooks himself. The two-hour premiere will air Jan. 5 2016 at 10 p.m. on MTV. Will you be watching?
