Shazam could join up with the Justice League in future movies

If you ever wanted to see Shazam fight alongside Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman on the big screen, well, there's still some hope that your dream could come true.

Though last year's Justice League didn't exactly enjoy Infinity War levels of success, the DCEU is not out of the game, contrary to popular opinion. Shazam! is coming next year, and according to Entertainment Weekly, it definitely takes place in the same universe as the other films of the DCEU. Moreover, there are "tentative plans" for the character in the future, and that future could involve other DC heroes.

There are two unknown factors here — we don't know if any other DC heroes will show up in Shazam!, and we also don't know if there will be a Justice League sequel at any point. Still, the team behind Shazam! is speculating away.

When EW asked Shazam! producer Peter Safran about the possibility of Billy Batson/Shazam appearing in a Justice League film, his response was, "I wouldn’t be surprised to see Shazam play a role in the DCU. He exists in that world.”

The actor behind Shazam, Zachary Levi, is also excited about the possibility. “I would lose my s*** if that happened, I would lose all of the s**s. I remember thinking, ‘If I get this and if this movie does well enough and if Justice League does well enough and they make another Justice League … maybe I’ll be on that next poster with all those guys.”

What happens when the actor playing young Billy Batson (15-year-old Asher Angel) grows out of the age range of the role? This "outgrowing" has been factored in by the team as well. As Safran says, “It’s something we’ve considered and have plans in place for sequels that take into account those realities."

DC will be having a huge panel on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, and we will doubtlessly get more information about all of this there. In the meantime, take heart in the notion that the big-screen Justice League may live to fight another day.
