After weeks of speculation, we finally know which role Sherlock’s Mark Gatiss will play on the upcoming fourth season of Game of Thrones.

[Mild Book Spoilers Ahead]

According to Winter Is Coming, Mark Gatiss, whose casting announcement was made way back when around mid-July in a then mystery role, will play the role of Tycho Nestoris.

Nestoris is a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos (over in Essos), who are particularly renowned in the world of Game of Thrones as always managing to get back the money owed them.

Back in season three, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) warned against them, since the Iron Throne is in heavy debt with the Iron Bank. As a tactic, the Iron Bank fund the enemies of those in debt to them in order to get what's owed them: one way or another.

What’s rather interesting here is that Tycho Nestoris is a character who actually makes his first appearance in the fifth book of the series, A Dance With Dragons, whereas the series' timeline is now roughly set around halfway through book three, A Storm of Swords. Nestoris is thus being introduced much, much earlier on the hit HBO fantasy series than in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book saga.

Are you excited about Mark Gatiss' role? Why do you think the character is being introduced so early?
