A new, extended trailer for Sherlock’s period-set special has been released, showing off more of Victorian England and the gang we know and love.
This trailer, an extended cut of the one that was recently dropped, picks up with Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman) on the mean streets of 1895 investigating a new (old?) case. Of course, the special is set outside the series’ continuity and is basically just a fun experiment from creator Steven Moffat to play with his A-list cast in a more traditional setting. Not surprisingly, it looks fantastic.
The 90-minute special has been subtitled “The Abominable Bride,” and we know next to nothing about the plot. Even with the trailers, we still don’t know much more than we did. But my goodness, the visuals are slick. You think Moffat and this cast could find the time to crank out some parallel Sherlock specials, set in both the modern times and Victorian England? Yes, please.
Along with the Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, debut on MASTERPIECE Mystery! on PBS at 9 p.m. ET, the special will also be simulcast online. The special will also be shown in select theaters the first week of 2016.
