As we move ever closer to the 2019 release of Marvel's first female-led film, Captain Marvel, we're sure to get continued news about additional casting. And today is one of those lucky days, because the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a new member.
According to Deadline, DeWanda Wise, who currently stars in Netflix's She's Gotta Have It, has joined Captain Marvel to co-star alongside Brie Larson. It's currently unknown what character Wise will play, but Deadline calls it a "plum" co-starring role (while THR is referring to it as a "supporting role"). She's Gotta Have It also just got renewed for a second season, so you could say it's shaping up to be a marvelous 2018 for Wise.
With Ben Mendelsohn as the reported villain, Jude Law as the male protagonist, and Samuel L. Jackson recurring as Nick Fury, it's nice to see another lady join Larson's Carol Danvers. But don't worry, the film is still over a year away, so there's likely plenty of news to come.
Captain Marvel is slated to soar into theaters March 6, 2019.
