With Marvel-mania upon us, it's no surprise that the company and ABC are moving fast and furious to get Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot in front of cameras sooner rather than later. But just how soon will this thing get started?

According to a report by Digital Spy, the Avengers spinoff series should start shooting within two months, with a scheduled start date of January 2013.

Timeline-wise, it would put the series in contention for a spot on ABC's fall schedule in 2013, meaning it could hit just as the next slate of Marvel films (Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 3) are expected to blow up the box office.

Perfect timing, right?

For fans, the shooting schedule also opens up chances for some S.H.I.E.L.D. footage (or even the whole pilot) to debut at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2013.

With the cast already starting to come together, and Whedon's extensive experience with running quality TV shows, it stands to reason they can handle the compressed timetable.

What do you think? Would you tune in to a S.H.I.E.L.D. series on a weekly basis?
