We've seen the new look heroes from the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Now how about the gang's archnemesis, Shredder?
TMNT Fansite posted the first picture of Shredder on Twitter, and it's quite a bit different from the traditional interpretation of the character. While Shredder in his various incarnations has always been seen in a suit of Japanese-inspired armor (since the character himself is Japanese), this version looks kind of like a cross between the Silver Samurai and a Transformer.
The actor playing Shredder, William Fichtner, is obviously not of Asian descent, but the filmmakers apparently wanted to keep some of the Japanese aspect of the character's outfit, at least (by the way, that looks like Splinter in the foreground).
Shredder's origin has been retconned a couple of times in the TMNT comics and movies, but apparently in the new film he is actually responsible, along with the father of April O'Neil (Megan Fox) for the creation of the Turtles themselves.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay. In addition to Fox, Fichtner and Will Arnett, the movie will star Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard and Danny Woodburn in the mo-cap suits as the Turtles and Splinter, with Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub providing the voices for Leonardo and Splinter. The movie opens on Aug. 8.
All right, TMNT fans, how do you rate Shredder's new look? Fire away below!
